I initially installed the injection pump on my newly rebuilt engine with the crankshaft at TDC. The engine ran pretty well but had some light smoke so I got ready to adjust the injection timing. It looked like the manual says to set the crank to 24 BTDC prior to installing the injection pump. I removed and reinstalled the pump at 24.jbrasile. While the 603 is a much more civilized and powerful engine (148hp in the 300D Turbo and SDL) it does not come even close to the 617 as far as durability and reliability. The trap oxidizer is not the worst of its problems and because it is slightly more complex its operational costs are higher too.Oct 30, 2005 · That extra 5" is big as the OM617/transmission transfer case measures 70", which is really pushing the envelope lengthwise as far as squeezing it into an FJ40 with a 90" wheelbase.
