The HR* added kind of a buzz on top of everything that I didn’t like. I play tested two Buffet-Crampon Baritone Saxophones - one lacquered, one matte; two Selmers, a Series Three and Series Two; and a Antiqua, black lacquer. The only one that came close to my Yamaha was the Antiqua. The Selmers were on par with the Buffet-Cramons.But at least there's no confusion with closed keys as they're opened for specific notes - LH (palm) high D, Eb and F keys, front F key, RH side Bb, C and high E keys, high F# and cross/chromatic/key/side F# or F# key, then G# key, low Eb and low C# keys. A Brilhart Ebolin often gets me real close. However I had to try quiet a number of them to find the right one that just has it. My Carlsbad era Ebolin 3* floats. between the warm Lester tone and the Getz tone with the right reed combination.The AWO1 is a really free blower, and easier to play overall. The tone is a more focused and intonation is spot-on with minimal adjustment on my end. My wife commented that I look much more comfortable playing the AWO1. Finish on the AWO1 is excellent overall. Lacquer is not 100% perfect, but I am being extremely picky.I suspect that is true. Most modern pads have some degree of waterproofing (and sealing of any porosity - apart from kangaroo pads). When badly done it is sticky; when well done it is not stick, and it is very successful. I can understand dye for a visual point of difference, but not paint.
